Harry Pallenberg:  Director / Producer

For the past 15 years Harry Pallenberg has produced over 1000 shows at KCET in Los Angeles for Huell Howser Productions and the PBS series CALIFORNIA’S GOLD.


Additionally he has produced & directed two feature documentaries. The first is  SHOTGUN FREEWAY: Drives through Lost L.A. A quest for the soul of the city. With Buck Henry, David Hockney, Joan Didion and James Ellroy.  Trailer is here, or Netflix it.


The second is WOMEN IN BOXES: A Documentary on Magic’s Better Half, which is currently airing on The Documentary Channel. 


Harold Osmer: Literally wrote the book.

Harold Osmer’s series of books all started with WHERE THEY RACED, which began as a graduate project on the geography of Los Angeles as seen through the history of auto racing.

Gary Wales - and his big red 1913 Fiat lines up on Ocean Ave. by the starting line of the Santa Monica Road races (1909-1919) then he fires her up and races us down the back straightaway.

Brian Blain is there too with his blue 1911 National which won at Santa Monica 100 years ago. Unfortunately his car was unable to run as he blew a valve getter it ready for its Indy centennial lap.

Don Pullen - (Eddie Pullen’s son) joined us and showed off the family photo album.

Rick Rawlins - Takes his perfectly restored Ed Winfield Ford for a lap around what remains of Legion Ascot, then shows us the famous 1913 Peugeot that won at Indy and the Santa Monica Road races.

Hank Hilty - great grandson of AF Gilmore founder of Gilmore Oil and Gilmore Stadium shows us the hidden Gilmore Museum and walks us around the old stadium.

VIc Edelbrock Jr. - Of Edelbrock racing brings his father’s V8 60 back to the site of Gilmore Stadium.

Leslie Kendall - Curator at the Petersen Auto Museum gives us the tour of this amazing archive of automotive history.

Danny Thompson & Judy Thompson Creach - Son & 1st wife of Mickey walk on the site of the former Lions strip and reminisce on Lions, lakes and the legend.

Richard Parks -  Son of Wally. On drag racing and the NRHA.

Chuck Griffiths - NHRA and track manager at Pomona for 19 years.

Tom Malloy - Son of Emmett Malloy builder of Carrell Speedway takes us back to the site and does a lap with his 1932 roadster.

Greg Sharpe - NHRA Museum. On Drag and racing history in general

JC Agajanian - Son of JC Agajanian talks to us about Ascot at the 75th Annual Turkey Night.

Dick Jordan -  USAC on the track at Irwindale at “Turkey Night”
